The term SMOG COMPONENT refers to the four main pollutants that contribute to smog. These include OZONE (O3), a gas that is formed when nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds react in the presence of sunlight; HAZE (H2S), a mixture of tiny particles and droplets that are suspended in the air; CINDER (C6H6), a solid material that is produced by burning coal, oil, or gas; and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), a gas that is released from burning fossil fuels.
