Nat Turner was an African-American slave who led a slave rebellion in 1831. He is remembered as one of the most prominent figures in the history of American slavery. He was born into slavery in Virginia and was later sold to a plantation owner in Southampton County, Virginia. He was a preacher and a leader of the rebellion, which resulted in the deaths of around 60 white people. His actions were seen as a major catalyst for the abolition of slavery in the United States.
