The skin layer is composed of several layers, each with its own unique name. The DERMIS (6 letters), also known as the CUTIS (5 letters), is the innermost layer of the skin and is composed of connective tissue. The derm (4 letters) is the layer of skin directly above the DERMIS and is composed of epidermal cells. The DERMA (5 letters) is the outermost layer of the skin and is composed of dead cells. The EPIDERMIS (9 letters) is the layer of skin directly above the DERMA and is composed of keratinocytes. Finally, the mesoderm (8 letters) is the layer of skin between the DERMIS and EPIDERMIS and is composed of collagen and elastin fibers.
