Tonya Harding is an American figure skater who rose to fame in the early 1990s. She was the first American woman to land a triple axel jump in competition and won the 1991 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. In 1994, she became embroiled in controversy when her ex-husband and bodyguard were implicated in an attack on her rival Nancy Kerrigan. Despite the scandal, Harding continued to compete and won the bronze medal at the 1994 Winter Olympics.
