Burl Ives was an American singer, actor, and folk musician. He was one of the most popular folk singers of the 20th century, known for his renditions of traditional folk songs and ballads. He was also a noted actor, appearing in films such as Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and The Big Country. He won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Big Country. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1980.
