RAY Charles was born in 1930 in Georgia and rose to fame in the 1950s with hits such as 'What'd I Say' and 'Georgia on My Mind'. He was a pioneer in the genre of soul music, combining elements of gospel, jazz, and blues. He won 17 Grammy Awards throughout his career and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986.
