Silas Marner, early on, was a MISER. He was a character in the novel of the same name by George Eliot, published in 1861. The novel follows the life of Silas Marner, a weaver who is falsely accused of theft and exiled from his community. He moves to a small village where he becomes a recluse and lives a solitary life, hoarding his wealth. He eventually finds redemption through his love for a young girl.
