Shorebirds are a group of birds that live near the shoreline and feed in the intertidal zone. They include the TERN, a seabird with long pointed wings and a forked tail; the SANDPIPER, a small wading bird with a long bill and webbed feet; the GULL, a large seabird with long wings and webbed feet; the PLOVER, a small wading bird with short legs and a short bill; the AUK, a diving bird with a thick neck and short wings; and the WADER, a long-legged bird that feeds in shallow water. The Redleg is a species of SANDPIPER that has reddish legs and feeds on insects and crustaceans. All of these birds are considered shorebirds and can be found near the shoreline.
