A LIAISON is a secretive or illicit relationship between two people or groups. It is often used to describe a relationship between two people who are not married, but are involved in a romantic or sexual relationship. It can also be used to describe a relationship between two organizations or businesses that are working together on a project or initiative. In either case, the relationship is kept secret and is not openly acknowledged.
