Searches (through) can be done in two ways: sifting and rifling. Sifting is the process of separating out the desired material from a mixture by passing it through a sieve or other device. Rifling is the process of cutting spiral grooves into the inside of a gun barrel, which causes the bullet to spin and increases its accuracy. Both processes involve searching through something to find what is desired.
