The ARAL Sea is a shrunken body of water located in Central Asia. It was once the world's fourth-largest lake, but due to the diversion of its feeder rivers for irrigation, it has been steadily shrinking since the 1960s. The ARAL Sea has now split into two separate bodies of water, the North ARAL Sea and the South ARAL Sea. The North ARAL Sea has been partially restored through a dam project, while the South ARAL Sea continues to shrink.
