James AGEE was an American novelist, poet, screenwriter, journalist, and film critic. He is best known for his novel A Death in the Family (1957) and his screenplay for The African Queen (1951). AGEE wrote extensively for magazines such as Time, Fortune, and The Nation, and was a regular contributor to The New Yorker. He also wrote several screenplays, including The Night of the Hunter (1955) and The African Queen (1951). AGEE was nominated for three Academy Awards for Best Adapted Screenplay, and won two of them. He was posthumously awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1958 for A Death in the Family.
