Saskatchewan's capital is Regina, a city of approximately 215, 000 people located in the southern part of the province. It is the second largest city in Saskatchewan and is the cultural, commercial, and transportation hub of the region. Regina was founded in 1882 as a temperance colony and was named after Queen Victoria. It became the capital of the North-West Territories in 1883 and the capital of Saskatchewan when it became a province in 1905.
