Alex Haley was an American author and the writer of the novel 'ROOTS'. He is best known for his 1976 book, which tells the story of an African-American family's history, beginning with the capture and enslavement of Kunta Kinte in Gambia. The novel was adapted into a television miniseries in 1977, which won nine Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe. Haley also wrote the autobiography of Malcolm X, which was published in 1965.
