Cato the Elder, also known as Marcus Porcius CATO, was a Roman statesman and historian who lived in the 2nd century BC. He is often referred to as 'the Elder' to distinguish him from his great-grandson, CATO the Younger. He is renowned for his moral integrity and his staunch opposition to Hellenization. He is remembered for his famous quote, 'Carthago delenda est, ' meaning 'Carthage must be destroyed.'
