Roll call response is a term used to refer to the responses given by individuals when their name is called during a roll call. The four most common responses are 'AYE' (3 letters), 'YEA' (3 letters), 'HERE' (4 letters) and 'NAY' (3 letters). A fifth response, 'PRESENT' (7 letters), is also sometimes used. AYE and YEA are affirmative responses, while NAY and HERE are negative responses. PRESENT is a neutral response, indicating that the individual is PRESENT but not necessarily agreeing or disagreeing with the issue at hand.
