Rhodesia, now known as Zimbabwe, was a former British colony in southern Africa. It was named after Cecil Rhodes, a British businessman and politician who was instrumental in the colonization of the region. In 1965, the white minority government declared independence from Britain, leading to a civil war that lasted until 1979. In 1980, the country was renamed Zimbabwe and became an independent nation.
