The INTERNAL Revenue Service (IRS) is a federal agency of the United States Department of the Treasury responsible for collecting taxes and enforcing tax laws. It is also responsible for providing tax assistance to taxpayers and for administering the INTERNAL Revenue Code, the main body of federal statutory tax law of the United States. The IRS is the largest single source of revenue for the U.S. government and is responsible for processing millions of individual and business tax returns each year.
