The Republic of Egypt is an ARAB nation located in the northeast corner of Africa. It is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, the Gaza Strip and Israel to the northeast, the Red Sea to the east, Sudan to the south, and Libya to the west. The country has a population of over 100 million people and is the most populous country in the Middle East and North Africa region. The official language is Arabic and the capital is Cairo. Egypt is a republic with a semi-presidential system of government. It is a member of the United Nations, the African Union, the Non-Aligned Movement, the ARAB League, and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
