Agamic reproduction is a type of asexual reproduction in which offspring are produced without fertilization. It is a form of reproduction that does not involve the fusion of gametes, and instead involves mitosis. This type of reproduction is found in some plants, fungi, and protists, as well as in some invertebrates such as flatworms and rotifers. Agamic reproduction can occur through fragmentation, budding, or parthenogenesis. Fragmentation involves the breaking off of a piece of an organism which then grows into a new organism. Budding is when a new organism grows from a bud on the parent organism. Parthenogenesis is when an egg develops into an embryo without being fertilized.
