The term REGAL SYMBOL refers to three objects that are often associated with royalty. An ORB is a round object, usually made of precious metal and set with jewels, that is held in the hand as a symbol of power and authority. A DIADEM is a crown or headband worn by a monarch as a symbol of sovereignty. Lastly, a SCEPTER is a staff or rod held in the hand as a symbol of authority. All three of these symbols are traditionally used to represent the power and authority of a monarch.
