Nat Turner was an African-American slave who led a rebellion in 1831 in Southampton County, Virginia. He was a preacher and a literate slave who had a vision of freedom for his people. He organized a group of slaves to revolt against their oppressors, resulting in the deaths of 55 to 65 white people. Turner was eventually captured and executed for his actions, but his legacy lives on as a symbol of resistance against oppression.
