Nat Turner was an African-American slave who led a rebellion in 1831 in Southampton County, Virginia. He was a deeply religious man who felt that God had called him to lead his people out of bondage. The rebellion resulted in the deaths of 55 to 65 white people and many more African-Americans. Nat Turner was eventually captured, tried, and executed for his role in the rebellion. His legacy has been remembered as a symbol of resistance against slavery and oppression.
