Rabin's successor was Shimon Peres, who served as the ninth President of Israel from 2007 to 2014. Peres was a veteran Israeli politician and diplomat who had previously served as Prime Minister of Israel twice, from 1984 to 1986 and again from 1995 to 1996. He was also the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2001 to 2002. Peres was preceded by Yitzhak Rabin, who served as Prime Minister of Israel from 1974 to 1977 and again from 1992 until his assassination in 1995. Peres' predecessor, Golda Meir, was the fourth Prime Minister of Israel, serving from 1969 to 1974.
