Ernie Pyle was an American journalist and Pulitzer Prize winner who is best known for his World War II dispatches. He was born in 1900 in Indiana and worked as a newspaper reporter before becoming a war correspondent. He wrote about the everyday lives of soldiers and their experiences on the battlefield, which earned him the Pulitzer Prize in 1944. Pyle was killed in 1945 while covering the Battle of Okinawa.
