Puget Sound is an INLET of the Pacific Ocean located in the northwest corner of the United States. It is an ESTUARY, which is a body of water where freshwater from rivers and streams mixes with saltwater from the ocean. The INLET is approximately 170 miles long and up to 60 miles wide, making it one of the largest estuaries in the United States. It is home to many species of fish, birds, and other wildlife, and is a popular destination for recreational activities such as fishing, boating, and whale watching.
