Ballantine Books was founded in 1952 by Ian and Betty Ballantine and was one of the first companies to specialize in paperback books. The company published a wide range of genres, including science fiction, fantasy, horror, mystery, and romance. Ballantine Books was eventually sold to Random House in 1973.
