The Protestant Denomination is composed of two main branches, Lutheran and African Methodist Episcopal (AME). Lutheranism is a major branch of Protestant Christianity that follows the teachings of Martin Luther, a German monk who initiated the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century. The African Methodist Episcopal Church is the first independent Protestant denomination founded by African Americans in the United States. It was established in 1816 and is based on traditional Methodist beliefs.
