Project Mercury Chimp was a space program conducted by the United States in the early 1960s. The program involved sending a chimpanzee named Enos into space to test the effects of space travel on living organisms. Enos was the first chimpanzee to be sent into space and was launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, on November 29, 1961. The mission was successful and Enos returned safely to Earth. This mission paved the way for the first human spaceflight, which took place in 1962.
