Producer coral, also known as hermatypic coral, is a type of coral that produces calcium carbonate skeletons and is the main contributor to the formation of coral reefs. The POLYP is the individual organism that makes up the coral and is responsible for the production of the calcium carbonate skeletons. Polyps are typically small, soft-bodied organisms that live in colonies and are found in both shallow and deep waters. They are an important part of the marine ecosystem, providing food and shelter for many species of fish and other marine life.
