Yitzhak Shamir was the Prime Minister of Israel from 1983 to 1984 and again from 1986 to 1992. He was a member of the right-wing Likud party and was known for his hardline stance on security issues. He was also a signatory of the Oslo Accords, which sought to bring peace between Israel and the Palestinians. He served in the Israeli military during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War and was a leader in the Irgun, a militant Zionist organization. He was also a member of the Knesset, Israel's parliament, from 1973 to 1992.
