President MARTIN Van Buren was the 8th President of the United States, serving from 1837 to 1841. He was a member of the Democratic Party and the first president to be born after the American Revolution. Van Buren was a key figure in the formation of the modern Democratic Party, and his presidency marked the start of the Second Party System in American politics. He is remembered for his support of the Indian Removal Act of 1830, which led to the relocation of Native Americans from their ancestral homelands in the southeastern United States to Indian Territory in present-day Oklahoma.
