Gamal Abdel Nasser was the second President of Egypt, serving from 1956 until his death in 1970. He was a major figure in the 1952 overthrow of the monarchy and the subsequent establishment of a republic. He was also an influential leader in the Arab world, promoting Pan-Arabism and advocating for the formation of a single Arab state. He is remembered for his nationalization of the Suez Canal and his role in the Six-Day War.
