A posse is a group of people who are organized to pursue and capture a person or persons, usually for the purpose of enforcing the law. The members of a posse can include DEPUTIES, LAWMEN, pals, and pursuers. DEPUTIES are law enforcement officers who are appointed by a sheriff or other official. LAWMEN are people who enforce the law, such as police officers, sheriffs, and marshals. Pals are close friends or companions who are willing to help out in a difficult situation. Pursuers are people who actively seek out and attempt to capture someone or something. All of these people can be members of a posse.
