Cole Porter was an American composer and songwriter who wrote some of the most popular musicals and songs of the 20th century. He is best known for his witty, sophisticated lyrics and catchy melodies. He wrote over 1, 000 songs, including such classics as 'Night and Day, ' 'I Get a Kick Out of You, ' and 'Anything Goes.' His work has been covered by many artists, from Frank Sinatra to Ella Fitzgerald. He was also a successful Broadway composer, writing such hits as Kiss Me, Kate and Anything Goes. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970 and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1986.
