Ponzi schemes, also known as pyramid schemes, are fraudulent investment operations that involve paying returns to investors from their own money or the money paid by subsequent investors, rather than from any actual profit earned. These SCAMS, which are often referred to as 'SCAMS' (5 letters) or 'rackets' (7 letters), are named after Charles Ponzi, who became notorious for using the technique in 1920.
