Estes Kefauver was an American politician who served as a U.S. Senator from Tennessee from 1949 to 1963. He was a member of the Democratic Party and was known for his work in fighting organized crime and corruption. He ran for the Democratic nomination for President in 1956, but lost to Adlai Stevenson. Kefauver is remembered for his work in the Senate, particularly his chairmanship of the Special Committee to Investigate Organized Crime in Interstate Commerce, which held hearings in 14 cities across the United States.
