Polar explorers are individuals who have ventured into the Arctic and Antarctic regions. Admiral Richard E. Byrd, an American naval officer, was a pioneering polar explorer who made four expeditions to Antarctica between 1928 and 1956. British explorer James Clark Ross was the first to reach the North Magnetic Pole in 1831. English explorer Robert Falcon Scott led two expeditions to Antarctica, the first in 1901 and the second in 1910-1912. Norwegian explorer Roald AMUNDSEN was the first to reach the South Pole in 1911. American explorer Robert Edwin Peary was the first to reach the North Pole in 1909. Canadian explorer John Rae was the first to discover the final link in the Northwest Passage in 1854.
