Mahmoud Abbas, also known as Abu Mazen, is the current leader of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). He was elected in 2005 and has been re-elected twice since then. Abbas is a Palestinian politician and diplomat who has served in various roles within the PLO since the 1960s. He is also the President of the Palestinian National Authority and the Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization Executive Committee. Abbas has been involved in negotiations with Israel and the United States in an effort to reach a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
