The PLAYWRIGHT'S PRIZE is an award given to recognize excellence in playwriting. It is awarded by two organizations, the TONY Awards and the Obie Awards. The TONY Awards are presented annually by the American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League to recognize excellence in Broadway theatre. The Obie Awards are presented annually by the Village Voice newspaper to recognize excellence in Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway theatre. Both awards are highly prestigious and sought after by playwrights.
