Enid Bagnold was an English author and playwright. She is best known for her 1935 novel National Velvet, which was later adapted into a 1944 film starring Elizabeth Taylor. Bagnold also wrote several plays, including The Chalk Garden, which was adapted into a 1964 film starring Deborah Kerr. Bagnold was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1975 for her services to literature.
