A plainsong singer, or CHANTER, is a vocalist who sings in the style of plainsong, which is a type of monophonic, unaccompanied sacred song of the Christian Church. Plainsong is also known as Gregorian chant, and is characterized by its use of long, flowing melodic lines and a lack of rhythmic meter. Chanters are typically found in churches, singing plainsong during services or other religious ceremonies.
