Pitcher Sparky Lyle was a Major League Baseball relief pitcher who played for the New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, and Philadelphia Phillies from 1967 to 1982. He was a two-time All-Star and won the 1977 Cy Young Award as the American League's best pitcher. He was known for his fiery personality and his ability to close out games in the late innings. He retired with 238 career saves, which was the third-highest total in MLB history at the time.
