Marie Curie, also known as Madame Curie, was a pioneering radiation researcher who is best known for her discovery of the elements radium and polonium. She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize and the only person to win two Nobel Prizes in two different sciences. Her research into radioactivity led to the development of the Geiger counter, an instrument used to detect and measure ionizing radiation.
