The Philistine City of Gath was one of the five major cities of the Philistines, located in the southern coastal plain of Canaan. Gath was the largest and most important of the five cities, and it is mentioned in the Bible as the home of Goliath. The other Philistine City was Gaza, located in the southwestern corner of the modern-day Gaza Strip. Gaza was an important port city and was the site of several battles between the Philistines and the Israelites.
