The Persian Wheel, also known as a Noria (5 letters), is an ancient water-lifting device used in the Middle East. It consists of a large wheel with buckets or pots attached to its circumference which are filled with water from a river or stream. The wheel is then turned by a draft animal, such as a donkey or camel, and the buckets are emptied into a trough or irrigation canal.
