Pennies and nickels are two of the most common COINS used in the United States. They are both part of the U.S. currency system and are referred to as small change. Pennies are made of copper-plated zinc and are worth one cent each. Nickels are made of a combination of copper and nickel and are worth five cents each. Together, pennies and nickels make up the majority of COINS used in everyday transactions.
