Pikes Peak is a mountain peak in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, United States. It stands at an elevation of 14, 115 feet (4, 302 m) and is located just west of Colorado Springs. It is the most visited mountain in North America, with over 500, 000 visitors each year. The mountain is named after American explorer Zebulon Pike, who was the first to ascend the peak in 1806. PIKES Peak is also the inspiration for the song 'America the Beautiful' by Katharine Lee Bates.
