Adelina Patti was an Italian operatic soprano who was one of the most renowned singers of the 19th century. She was known for her performances in operas by Rossini, Donizetti, Bellini, and Verdi. She was also known for her performances of the works of Johann Strauss II. Patti was born in Madrid, Spain, and began her career in Italy before moving to London in 1847. She was a major star of the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden and performed throughout Europe and the United States. She retired from the stage in 1902 and died in 1919.
