The Palestinian political group Hamas is a militant Islamist organization that has been active in the region since 1987. It is considered a terrorist organization by many countries, including the United States and the European Union. Hamas is dedicated to the destruction of Israel and the establishment of an Islamic state in Palestine. It has been involved in numerous armed conflicts with Israel, as well as suicide bombings and other attacks against Israeli civilians.
